RIVERSIDE--- It was a record-breaking day at Totman Stadium for the California Baptist baseball program as it welcomed UNLV to Riverside for a Monday match-up. CBU's 13-run first inning secured the win early for the Lancers, breaking school records and improving the Lancers' record to 17-12 on the season while dropping the Rebels to 14-14 on the year.

UNLV's offense seemed to earn the upper hand in the top of the first after their second hitter blasted a home run over right field to take an early lead off CBU's starter
David Vizcaino. The righty was able to get out of the inning without any further damage and turned control over to the Lancer's offense. Trouble started almost immediately for the Rebel's pitching staff after walking
Bubba Rocha before a single from
Nicholas Dumesnil and walking
Ben Castelli. From there, the next three CBU batters battled in the box and walked in three runs to take the lead. With the bases juiced,
Trevor Spainhoward demolished a ball over left field for his first career home run and first career grand slam. UNLV could not get themselves out of the inning, and after securing the second out, the Rebels faced seven more CBU batters. Rocha and Dumesnil both found their way on base again with a single each before the latter would set a CBU NCAA-era record for most steals in a single inning with three.
Andrew Walters secured the final runs of the inning after lacing the Lancers' second home run of the day for a trio of RBI, pushing the score to 13-1 after a 50-minute first inning.

UNLV managed to stave off any more offense from California Baptist for the next two innings, but it was only a matter of time before the Lancers put together more hits. The bottom of the fourth was highlighted by an RBI single from Walters before
Ryan Kim knocked his seventh home of the season for a pair of runs. A two-run no-doubter came from the Rebels' side in the top of the sixth but was immediately met with three more runs from the CBU batters.

CBU's dominating day at the plate totaled 12 hits, 19 runs, three home runs, and 10 walks. The 13 runs in the first inning is a CBU NCAA-era record, with the previous high coming from the 2015 Lancer squad with 11 against Cal State Los Angeles.
Gary Adcock's squad matched the CBU Division I era most batters in a single inning record with 16 in the first and also matched the CBU Division I era most stolen bases by the team in a single inning with five. Dumesnil, Kim, and Walters all cashed in two hits against UNLV, while both Spainhoward and Walters totaled five RBI each at the plate. Vizciano came away with the win for his second of the year from the mound, tossing 47 pitches across three innings while allowing just three hits and sitting down two Rebels.

The Lancers will now begin preparing Grand Canyon this weekend for the first time in three years as WAC play continues, starting Friday at 6 p.m.
