SACRAMENTO, CA --- The Western Athletic Conference season continued on Thursday evening in Nothern California, as Sacramento State welcomed the California Baptist baseball program to open the weekend series. The home squad secured the win 3-0 over the Lancers after a three-run second inning, dropping CBU to 4-6 in WAC play and 21-17 on the season.
Despite going even on hits, one swing earned the win for the Hornets after Sac State knocked a three-run homer in the second inning for a lead they would not give up. CBU battled at the plate and came up with seven hits, but the seven runners left on base would be the ultimate proverbial nail in the coffin for the Lancers. Cody New was tagged with the loss, but the sophomore lefty held down six scoreless innings across his seven-inning outing and sat down seven Hornets on strikeouts to bump his season total to 62.

Chris Ramirez continues to shine for the Lancers, bumping his season batting average to .372 on the season after going two-for-three at the plate in Sacramento. Ryan Kim also posted a two-hit night, while Nicholas Dumesnil had the lone extra-base hit via a double for CBU.
California Baptist will return to John Smith Field tomorrow at 4 p.m. for an opportunity to tie the series with the Hornets as they hunt for the top-four spot in the WAC standings to bypass the single elimination round at the year-end tournament in May.
