Lancers Drop Series to Hornets on Saturday Afternoon

SACRAMENTO, CA--- The California Baptist baseball program closed out a three-game spread on Saturday afternoon with a 6-2 loss to Sacramento State and dropped a crucial Western Athletic Conference series 2-1. CBU is now 5-7 in WAC play and 22-18 on the season, sitting fifth in the conference standings.

Despite scoring first in the first inning, CBU's offense was quiet again during the Saturday series finale and dribbled in seven hits across nine innings while leaving eight runners on base. Chris Ramirez continues to shine for CBU at the plate, knocking two hits to get on base and scoring one run. Nicholas Dumesnil made program history with his 20th stolen base this afternoon against the Hornets, earning the most stolen bases in a single season during CBU's Division I era.

From the mound, the Lancers worked through six pitchers and saw Jacob Wilson toss one inning, where he gave up a pair of runs that gave Sacramento State the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Despite only giving up one walk, the Hornet bats were hot with runners in scoring position and drove in six runs on nine hits for the series win.

Sacramento State, Grand Canyon, and Utah Valley are now tied for first with 10 wins each, while Abilene Christian and California Baptist trail by two and five games, respectively. CBU has four series left in conference play before the WAC Tournament begins in late May, kicking off with Utah Valley next weekend in Utah. The Lancers will head to UC Santa Barabra on Monday for a midweek tilt before heading to Orem, Utah, for the weekend WAC series.
