Lancers Claim Series Against Seattle U Behind Explosive First inning

SEATTLE, WA--- Another Western Athletic Conference series was secured for the California Baptist baseball program on Saturday morning after the Lancers defeated Seattle U 4-2 at Funko Field. The series win over the Redhawks marks the fourth conference series the Lancers have won this season, improving their WAC record to 11-9 and their overall record to 28-23.

Another explosive first inning from CBU's offense was the difference on Saturday, after a double steal from Nicholas Dumesnil and Ben Castelli put runners in scoring position to get things going. It was Jake Brown who brought home the first run of the day with a single to right field before Andrew Walters knocked his eighth home run of the year for three more runs to give CBU an early lead. The scoreline stayed quiet until the seventh inning after a triple put the Redhawks in position to score with an RBI single in back-to-back at-bats, but Andrew Rudd put an end to the inning by inducing a ground ball. More small ball in the bottom of the eighth dribbled in another run for the home team, but it wouldn't be enough to best the Lancers.

Walters led the squad offensively again, posting three of the team's eight hits against Seattle U. From the mound, Ryan Kittredge was effective on the bump after going five innings and allowing just one hit with three strikeouts. Jacob Wilson secured his first save of the season after tossing the final inning of relief in a 1-2-3 fashion.

California Baptist will go for the crucial sweep tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m., potentially lifting the Lancers to a fourth-place standing in the WAC if Abilene Christian loses their series versus Tarleton State.
