CBU Secures Series Behind Electric Offense and Solid Pitching

The Texans opened the game well and looked much more offensive than last night after earning an early 1-0 lead. Jake Brown quickly flipped the script on the visiting team after blasting a 405-foot three-run home run in the bottom of the first to snatch back the lead before Tarleton would threaten again in the bottom of the second with a solo shot to cut CBU's lead to one. Ryan Kittredge locked in from there and delivered four innings of shutout baseball, sitting down 10 Texans while allowing just four hits across a total of six innings.
After Kittredge stunned the visiting offense, CBU was quick to take advantage and put three on the board in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of Julian Alvarez and Bubba Rocha. It was the fifth inning that tipped the scale in favor of the Lancers after an Andrew Walters two-run shot kicked off a six-run inning for the home squad. California Baptist kept the good time rolling into the sixth inning, working their counts and plating another three runs to put themselves ahead 15-2. The top of the seventh saw a few tough errors from the Lancer infield, which allowed two runs to come home, but after tightening up defensively, Gary Adcock's squad ended the game in the seventh after enacting the run-rule for the series win.
Rocha and Ryan Kim stood out at the plate tonight after the duo tallied three hits each, while Brown and Walters secured four RBI on the evening against the Texans. In total, CBU posted 16 hits while striking out just six times and made the most of 10 free passes given by the Tarleton pitching staff. CBU's own pitching staff delivered just three free passes in the form of walks while tallying 11 Ks and giving up just four hits.
The Lancers will go for the sweep tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. as CBU closes out the second-to-last home series before welcoming #8 UCI on Tuesday evening.
