LOUISVILLE, KY --- John C. Funk Stadium, the home of California Baptist University Softball, has been recognized as one of the 2026 STADIONIC/NFCA Fields of the Year.
Â
Home to the Lancers since 2007, John C. Funk Stadium was one of eight fields to be recognized on Friday. The home of CBU Softball is the only Division I field to be honored in 2026, making Funk Stadium the best playing surface in Division I Softball.
Â
The honor of Field of the Year is awarded by the NFCA Events Committee and is in recognition of fields/stadiums for their flawless grounds maintenance and exceptional playing surfaces.
Â
Other fields that were recognized were: RCB Bank Sports Complex (NCAA DII – Rogers State University), Jason Bell Park at Taylor Field (NCAA DIII – East Texas Baptist University), Texas A&M-San Antonio Softball Field (NAIA – Texas A&M University-San Antonio), Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field (NJCAA – Jones College), College of San Mateo Softball Field (Cal JC – College of San Mateo), CCC Softball Field (NWAC – Clackamas Community College), and Panther Stadium (Washington Union High School (Calif.)).
Â
Since opening, Funk Stadium has undergone several renovations, including the addition of a video scoreboard in center field and artificial turf to the outfield and foul territory, completed in 2022.
Â
CBU also expanded the area around Funk Stadium in 2024 with the completion of the Baseball and Softball Clubhouse, which features state-of-the-art locker rooms, athletic training facilities, coaches' offices, and a meeting space called "The Cube". The clubhouse is located behind the first-base side of Funk Stadium and along the left-field line of James W. Totman Stadium, the home of CBU Baseball.
Â
The field also includes a traditional dirt infield that is consistently worked on and maintained by the CBU Facilities team.
Â
In the 2026 season, Funk Stadium witnessed some of the greatest moments in program history, including the first perfect game of the Lancers' Division I era and a walk-off home run to capture the first WAC Championship in program history.
Â
The Lancers finished 19-6 at home last season and will return to Funk Stadium on February 18 to host Boise State in the home opener of the 2027 season.
