RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University baseball team secured a series win over Seattle U Redhawks on Saturday evening as they defeated them 7-1 in game three of the series at Totman Stadium.
The win is the sixth in a row for the Lancers and keeps them undefeated at Totman Stadium at a perfect 5-0. The win also secures a series victory over the Redhawks with just one game remaining in the four-game series, which will take place on Sunday afternoon.
It was once again a pitcher's duel to begin the game as both teams went scoreless through five and a half innings. Bryan Peck made his second start of the season on the mound and would not give up his first hit until the third inning. Peck would ultimately go seven innings, recording five strikeouts, and earn the win for CBU. The Lancers would strike first in the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as Connor Ross would single to right field, bringing home Chris Ramirez. The Redhawks would lessen the damage with a strikeout to end the inning 1-0 in favor of CBU.
The offense started to percolate for both teams in the seventh inning, with the Redhawks scoring their only run of the ball game off a solo shot from Josh Cunnigan to even the score for the moment. CBU would score four runs in the bottom of the seventh and would total five hits in the frame. Matt Chavez and Matthe Bline started the offensive avalanche with singles to left field to warm up the Lancers' bats. Ramirez would single as well at the next at-bat, scoring Carter Eberhard, and then a Bryce McFeely double would bring home Ramirez and Bline, putting three quick runs on the board. Ben Castelli would finalize the scoring with an RBI double to score McFeely.
The scoring would spill into the eighth inning for the Lancers as a Redhawk fielding error would bring Chavez home, and Eberhard would score moments later to make the score 7-1 for the home team. Zachary Yates, who took the mound in the eighth, would finalize the game with a pair of strikeouts and a groundout to secure the victory and the series win for the Lancers.
The Lancers will conclude its series with the Redhawks on Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for Noon PT.
