SAN FRANCISCO, CA--- It was an off Saturday for the California Baptist baseball program as they dropped their third game to the University of San Francisco 3-2, after showing such dominance through the first two games of the series. CBU drops to 9-3 on the season, and despite not being able to sweep, the Lancers will go for the series win tomorrow morning.
The woes began early for the Lancers after starting pitcher Ryne Palmer was pulled during the first inning after struggling, as the Dons made their mark with two runs. As the game progressed, CBU's pitching staff settled in, and with the help of a solid infield, the Lancers retired three batters per inning until the eighth.
Offense was also quiet for the Lancers through the majority of the game as their first run of the afternoon came in the seventh inning. However, a small rally was kicked off at the top of the eighth after Riley Hunsaker drilled his second triple of the weekend for another run and put CBU within one of tying the game. The Lancers were unable to string together enough hits to get past the Dons' defense, though, and ultimately fell by one run.
CBU will return for one more game tomorrow morning, looking to secure the series versus the Dons.
