CBU Takes Down Santa Clara in GCC Clash on Saturday Afternoon in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, CA--- The California Baptist University women's water polo team earned another conference victory on Saturday afternoon as they bested the Santa Clara Broncos 14-8 at the Lancer Aquatics Center.
CBU is now 9-5 overall and 2-1 in the Gold Coast Conference standings, placing them in a tie for third place in the early going of the season.
The Broncos would put a little scare into the Lancers early on, scoring the opening goal of the afternoon and holding CBU scoreless for the first four minutes of the match. Delilah Moreno would break through first for CBU, followed by a pair of Emmie Ramirez goals and another goal from Moreno off a powerplay to make it 4-1. The Broncos would find two more goals before the half was over, trailing 5-3 after 16 minutes.
CBU would net the opening goals of the third period, which would be immediately answered with two goals from Santa Clara to keep the lead at two goals with 3:01 remaining in the third period. The Lancers would finish off the frame on a 3-1 run to lead by four goals heading into the final quarter. CBU's offense had its most productive period in the fourth, scoring four goals, while the Broncos managed only one, and the home squad took the victory 14-8.
Ramirez was once again the leading catalyst of the offense with a game-high seven points and would register her seventh straight hat trick with three goals. Devyn Ruffer was a force on both ends for the Lancers, recording three field blocks, two steals, and scoring five points (two goals, three assists) to aid the Lancers to victory. Moreno would also record a hat trick, scoring three goals and three shot attempts. In goal, Tyanna Schneider would record eight saves while allowing only eight goals and would tack on two steals.
NEXT: The Lancers will compete in the Convergence Tournament on Friday, March 6, beginning with a match against Claremont Mudd-Scripps.
