CBU Falls to LMU During Midweek Match

LOS ANGELES, CA--- California Baptist baseball traveled to Los Angeles on Tuesday evening after spending the weekend in Utah for a midweek match-up versus Loyola Marymount. In an uncharacteristic night for the Lancers, CBU struggled both offensively and defensively despite taking an early lead. California Baptist moves to 14-4 on the season after the 7-2 loss.
Cole Hansen started things off strong for the Lancers in the second inning with a solo shot before another run would come home thanks to an RBI single from Riley Hunsaker. It was in the bottom of the second that LMU would take control of the game after Ryne Palmer couldn't get out of a bases-loaded jam and gave up a grand slam for the LMU lead.
The Lancers would accrue eight hits against the Lions' pitching staff and struggled to bring runners home, while the visiting pitcher staff battled on the mound against an ever-moving strike zone. Kody Smathers and Andrew Rudd lead the way with three strikeouts each of the team's 11.
California Baptist will return home to Riverside this weekend to host Harvard in a four-game series, which will be a nice change of pace for the Lancers. The series is set to begin on Friday evening at 6 p.m.
