RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist baseball program returned home this weekend to welcome Harvard University for a four-game series, and kicked off the weekend with a 5-1 win. Highlighted by a four-run fourth inning, the Lancers keep the Crimson from earning their first win this season as the home squad improves to 15-4 this year.
A scoreless first three innings went by quickly before the Lancers capitalized on Harvard's throwing error to bring home Ben Castelli for the first run of the game. With the bases loaded, Ryder Dykstra knocked a bases-clearing double to stack three more runs on their lead. The Crimson made their way on the board in the sixth inning, courtesy of a throwing error by the Lancers, but CBU righted their wrong with a sacrifice fly from Dykstra to improve their lead to 5-1.
Cole Hansen and Dyktra both accumulated two hits each on Friday, but Michael Malki was the talk of the town. The sophomore delivered six innings of solid work from the mound, allowing just two hits and 1 unearned run while striking out eight batters.
Harvard will return to Totman Stadium tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. for the second installment of the weekend series.
