MBB PREVIEW: CBU Squares Off with Utah Valley for the WAC Title
3/14/2026 9:30:00 AM | Men's Basketball
LAS VEGAS, NV --- The stakes are at an all-time high, as the Lancers will battle Utah Valley on Saturday in the WAC Championship Game. The top two seeds in the WAC are poised to square off on national television, with a chance to punch their ticket to the national tournament on the line.
CBU earned its spot in the conference championship game after a dominating second half against Utah Tech on Friday. Dominique Daniels Jr. dropped 41 points in the victory, the most points ever scored in regulation in CBU history.
Jayden Jackson sank five 3-pointers to close the night with 19 points.
Utah Valley advanced in the bracket with a nail-biting two-point victory against UT Arlington. Arlington had a chance to either tie or win the game on the final possession. The tying opportunity was blocked, and then a subsequent 3-pointer for the win missed off the front of the rim.
Four Wolverines ended the win in double figures: Jackson Holcombe (14), Trevan Leonhardt (12), Sherman Weatherspoon IV (11), and Braden Housely (10).
The wins by CBU and Utah Valley set up a meeting of the top two seeds in the conference tournament. The winner of Saturday's game advances to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball National Tournament.
Neither CBU nor Utah Valley has been to the big dance before in their program's history.
Saturday will be the fourth meeting of the season between the Lancers and Wolverines. Utah Valley won the season series, 2-1, with both wins coming on its home floor in Orem. CBU's win was an overtime thriller in the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center. Daniels Jr. scored a program record 47 points in the victory.
Home success has been a noticeable trait for both the Lancers and the Wolverines. The two programs finished a combined 30-0 at home this season. The Wolverines have won 27 straight at home, the fourth-longest active home winning streak in Division I. The Lancers own the eighth-longest streak at 19 games.
This time around, in the biggest stage of this rivalry, the two teams will battle on a neutral floor.
Saturday will mark the end of an era for both programs as it will be the final WAC contest for both CBU and UVU. Both programs are transitioning to the Big West Conference next season.
The conference championship game will be a late night for the Lancers, as tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. Fans who were unable to make the trip to the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas can tune in on national television, as the game will air on ESPN+.
Saturday's winner will find out their next destination with the NCAA March Madness Selection Show on Sunday at 3 p.m. (PT).
