Ross Walks Off Harvard for the Series Win

RIVERSIDE--- It was a gritty win for the California Baptist baseball program on Sunday evening after a 3-2 10-inning victory secured the series against Harvard. Incredible defense from both sides led to a low-scoring affair, despite both teams accumulating eight or more hits across the 59 outs. CBU improves to 17-4 on the season, continuing one of their best starts in program history.
The Lancers drew first blood in the bottom of the second with an RBI single by Chris Ramirez for an early lead, but Harvard would respond the following inning with an RBI single of their own to tie the game. Both defenses held down their opponent well, but the Crimson managed to break the stalemate in the sixth off another RBI single into right field.
CBU lagged behind through the remainder of the game, and in the bottom of the ninth, Gary Adcock turned to Ben Castelli to try to force extra innings. Castelli got right to work and singled up the middle off the third pitch of the at-bat before he stole second to put himself in scoring position. The aggressive base-running paid off, and an errant throw by the catcher would allow Castelli to turn the corner after stealing third to tie the game at two runs apiece. Cameron Teper pitched a great top of the tenth inning and sat down Harvard in three batters to give the Lancers a chance at walking it off.
The bottom of the 10th kicked off with an excellent at-bat from Carter Eberhard, who battled through eight pitches to a walk. From there, Samuel Lopez moved Eberhard over with a textbook sacrifice bunt before Connor Ross would call game with a single up the middle to bring home the runner on second.
The win over Harvard marks the second extra-inning walk-off win for the Lancers this season, after CBU battled through 17 innings to victory over Cal State Fullerton during the opening weekend. With the series secured, the Lancers will go for their third weekend sweep of the season tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. in Riverside.
