RIVERSIDE--- It was the usual Saturday night for the California Baptist baseball program after knocking off the University of Evansville 10-3 for the series win, marking CBU's sixth of the season. The Lancers hit four home runs in an offensive evening game and have now surpassed the number of conference wins by the 2025 squad with a 19-5 record.
CBU jumped out to an early lead after Bryce McFeely knocked an RBI single that the Purple Aces soon matched in the top of the second inning. Gary Adcock's squad didn't sweat it and quickly regained its lead after Chris Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly to drive in one run. Cole Hansen then stepped up to the plate and knocked his third home run of the season. The redshirt freshman would go on to hit another home run later in the evening, totaling three RBI on the evening.
Carter Eberhard also took a trip around the bases for his second home run of the weekend series, but the highlight of the evening came from Ramirez's bat. The sophomore stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and unleashed a no-doubter in the bottom of the seventh, knocking his first collegiate grand slam and first home run at Totman Stadium this season. CBU totalled 16 hits with 10 runs on the evening.
It was a solid night from the mound as well, as Niko Urquidi earned his first Division I start and did well. The lefty went 4.1 innings and gave up just one run with three strikeouts. In total, the Lancers' pitching staff tossed 10 strikeouts and allowed nine hits.
CBU will be on the hunt for their third series sweep tomorrow afternoon as they welcome the Aces back for round three at Noon.
