Lancers Sweep the Aces with Sunday Victory

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist baseball program closed out another perfect weekend with a 9-1 Sunday victory over the University of Evansville. Bryan Peck tossed a phenomenal game, and the Lancer offense was hot, securing the third series sweep of the season. CBU improves to 20-5 on the season, continuing their best Division I start to date.
Gary Adcock's squad was firing right from the get-go, despite the heat radiating off the turf on Sunday afternoon. CBU's first two runs of the day came from RBI singles before another pair would be added on in the second inning, thanks to a sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk. Cole Howarth's bases-clearing double for two more runs was the highlight of the fifth inning, and Bryce McFeely would cap off the day with an opposite-field home run.
Peck delivered a fantastic day from the mound after tossing six innings and sitting down eight, while giving up just three hits and no runs. The lone run for the Aces would come in the top of the ninth in a mini comeback that was brewing, but it wouldn't be enough to topple the Lancers. The Aces' best chance came at the top of the seventh after a pitching change gave way to a loaded bases situation. John Carlson settled in and worked his way back to get out of the jam to preserve the shutout series sweep win.
McFeely led the way with three hits on the day, with three RBI for the Lancer offense. The CBU pitching staff combined for 10 strikeouts and allowed just one run across the nine innings of action.
California Baptist is back in action on Tuesday evening as they welcome UC Riverside for Firework Night at Totman Stadium, before heading to the East Coast to take on St. John's this weekend.
