CBU Cruises Past UCR on Firework Night

RIVERSIDE--- Fireworks shone bright at Totman Stadium on Tuesday evening, and so did the California Baptist baseball program as Gary Adcock's squad picked up its 21st win of the season with a 12-1 victory over UC Riverside. It was all CBU from the very first inning after Michael Malki tossed just nine pitches to end the top of the first, and from there, the Lancer offense was off and running. CBU improves to 21-5, and is now 2-0 in the series versus the Highlanders.

Cole Hansen kicked off the offense strong for the Lancers with an RBI single for his first run sent home of the night. He would attack the UCR pitching staff again in the bottom of the second with another single that scored Ryder Dykstra, before a trio of runs would come across home plate in the fourth, highlighted by a bases-clearing single from Ben Castelli. The fifth inning really put the nail in the coffin for the Highlanders after five runs would score in favor of CBU, including another pair of RBI for Hansen.

UCR did not go home empty-handed, however, and managed to knock a solo shot in the top of the ninth before the Lancers secured the victory. Chris Ramirez, Diesel Toth, and Hansen all picked up three hits against the Highlanders, as CBU tallied six doubles against their crosstown foes. Malki picked up his fifth pitching win of the season after tossing five innings of shutout baseball, highlighted by a lone hit and five strikeouts. The Lancer pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts on the evening.

The Lancers will now gear up for a road stint as they head to New York this weekend to face St. John's before Western Athletic Conference play begins in Abilene.
