CBU Takes Series Over BYU Behind Impressive Offense

PROVO, UT--- The California Baptist baseball program took control of game two versus Brigham Young University and cruised to a 14-7 victory to secure the series over the Big 12 program. The Lancer is improved to 13-3 on the season, as the win over BYU marks the program's fifth Big 12 Conference opponent victory in program history.

Ben Castelli got things going at the top of the second after he hit his third home run of the season. Cole Hansen followed in suit with his first collegiate home run immediately after Castelli for an early lead that would be built upon by a Cole Howarth RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Chris Ramirez in the same inning. With the wind blowing in Provo, it was no surprise that BYU laced their own two-run dinger, but the CB offense carried their momentum through the third inning. An RBI double and an RBI single would trickle in two more runs for the Lancers before Connor Ross would crack open the game with a grand slam.

The Cougars would defend their home turf and slowly chipped away at CBU's lead with a pair of back-to-back homers, but the Lancers' offense just kept giving, and another home run from Castelli pushed CBU ahead again. The California Baptist pitching staff would do their job from the mound and strike out 12 cougars and limit the home team to just seven runs on 12 hits. Howarth led the CBU offense with four hits and three RBI with one run.

California Baptist will have the opportunity tomorrow to sweep BYU at 11 a.m. Pacific standard time.
