Lancers Sweep BYU in Provo

PROVO, UT--- Gary Adcock's squad made history on Saturday afternoon after earning the California Baptist baseball program's first-ever series sweep over a Big 12 opponent. The Lancers took down BYU for the third time this weekend with an 11-7 victory, thanks to relentless offense and solid relief pitching. California Baptist improves to 14-3 this season, marking the best start to a season in Division I history for the program.
BYU jumped out to an early lead that was quickly relinquished after Bryce McFeely came to the plate in the third inning and knocked his fifth home run of the week for a trio of RBI to tie the game. An effective fourth inning saw four more runs come across home plate in favor of the Lancers, and Adcock's squad was off the races again, building on their lead. After tallying a pair of runs in the fifth, the Cougars would put up some fight and cut the Lancers' deficit to three.
Zachary Yates was exactly what CBU needed in the second half of the game as the graduate transfer allowed just two hits and struck out 6 Cougars in 2.2 innings of work to give the momentum back to the Lancers. An insurance run came through via a Cole Hansen double in the eighth, and CBU would ride out the 11-7 win for a perfect weekend in Provo.
California Baptist put up 38 runs on BYU in three games during the series sweep, while accumulating 38 strikeouts from the CBU pitching staff. The weekend also marks the squad's second sweep of the year.
Adcock's squad will now return to California for a midweek game versus LMU on Tuesday, before welcoming Harvard for a four-game series at Totman Stadium next weekend.
