RIVERSIDE--- California Baptist baseball has had an extremely impressive season, and Friday night's Western Athletic Conference series opener versus UT Arlington was no exception. The Lancers dominated the Mavericks with a 9-1 shutout victory, improving to 28-6 this season and moving to 3-1 in the WAC standings.

Connor Ross got right to work with a two-RBI double in the first inning to put CBU on the board, and the Lancers were on the move from there. Gary Adcock's squad brought home six more runs via two singles, a double, and a triple for the commanding lead that would never be relinquished. Despite a strong offensive showing, Michael Malki was the star of the show after another dominant performance from the mound. The sophomore went seven innings for the Lancers, dishing out 10 strikeouts and giving up just one run after allowing five hits. The pitching win on Friday moves him to 7-0 this season.

CBU continues to display its depth after battling through seven season-ending injuries and other small issues that have kept key players on the injury list. Friday night was another example of the squad's resilience, especially in dominant fashion. The Lancers sit atop the WAC standings with three conference wins and will go for the series win tomorrow afternoon before rain arrives in Riverside.

Out of caution, Sunday's game has been moved to a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1:35 p.m., with the second game starting 35 minutes after the final out.
