Malki Pitches a Complete Seven Inning Game in Texas

STEPHENVILLE, TX--- The bats were hot on Friday night for the California Baptist baseball program as the Lancers took down Tarleton State 12-1 in seven innings. Michael Malki tossed the first complete game for CBU since 2022, and the Lancers hit five home runs on their way to their fifth Western Athletic Conference win, improving to 31-7 on the year.

A four-run first inning opened the game early as the Lancers were in control from the very first pitch of the evening. Chris Ramirez knocked an RBI single, and Cole Hansen launched his fifth home run of the season before Connor Ross drove home another run with another single. Tarleton State threatened with a solo home run in the bottom of the first and had a few base runners, but Malki settled into the warm evening of the Texas night and avoided any other offensive threats. CBU would go on to hit three more home runs in the second inning from Matt Chavez, Chris Ramirez, and Ben Castelli. The final run of the game trickled in during the top of the fourth inning after Ross drove the Lancers' fifth home run of the game way out of the ballpark.

Malki's performance was the first time since 2022 a Lancer has pitched a complete game, and he tied his season-high seven-inning outing versus UT Arlington last week. The sophomore right-hander also tied his season-high 12 strikeouts, which came against San Francisco earlier this season. Additionally, Ramirez went three-for-three at the plate tonight with two RBI.

CBU will now return for the second game of the series versus Tarleton tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. PST and will look for its 10th series victory this season.
