STEPHENVILLE, TX--- California Baptist baseball fell to Tarleton State on Saturday afternoon in a competitive 3-2 game, evening the series and setting up a rubber-match game tomorrow morning. The loss drops the Lancers to 31-8 on the season, and they are now 5-3 in Western Athletic Conference play.
The Lancers scored twice in the fourth inning off a pair of groundball-outs to take a 2-0 lead that they would hold onto until the sixth inning. The bottom of the sixth saw the Texans knock a double that tied the game before an RBI single gifted the home team the lead. CBU threatened in the final three innings but couldn't string together enough at-bats to move their runners home.
Despite the loss, Bryan Peck tossed a fantastic game from the mound and struck out six Texans across five innings. Niko Urquidi was unfortunately tagged with the loss after giving up the final two runs that gave way to the Tarleton State victory. In total, the Lancer pitching staff pitched 10 strikeouts while only giving up six hits.
This is the first time this season the Lancers have had a rubber match for the final game during a conference series. CBU will look to preserve its nine-series win streak tomorrow at 10 a.m.
