RIVERSIDE--- It was an exciting night in Riverside as the California Baptist baseball program welcomed future Big West foe, UC Santa Barbara, to Totman Stadium on Monday. Despite falling behind quickly, the Lancers tallied a six-run eighth inning in a late comeback that ultimately fell short. CBU fell to the Gauchos 11-6 and moves to 31-10 on the season.

It was a bullpen game for the Lancers as Gary Adcock rotated through several different arms, but it didn't make a difference to UCSB, which managed to throw up a run in nearly every inning except the seventh. The CBU bats were slow to get hot as a few players dribbled in hits here and there, but it wasn't until Ryder Dykstra launched his first career home run that the Lancers got things moving. After the solo shot kicked off the eighth inning, Cole Hansen would double to left field to bring home a pair of runs before Ben Castelli knocked an RBI single. Bryce McFeely cleaned up the inning with a solo shot of his own, and CBU entered the final inning down by just two.

The Gauchos wasted no time at the top of the ninth and battled the final three arms of the Lancer pitching staff, securing three insurance runs to regain a five-run lead. CBU would threaten again at the bottom of the final frame with two runners aboard, but couldn't find a way to get the two home. The home pitching staff strung together seven strikeouts, and Cole Hansen shone on offense with his three hits against UCSB.

The Lancers will now turn their attention to a Western Athletic Conference weekend as they host Utah Tech in a very important series that begins Friday evening.
