CBU Falls to Utah Tech, Rubber Match on Deck for Sunday

RIVERSIDE--- California Baptist battled rainy weather to a 10-1 loss to Utah Tech on Saturday evening, dropping the mid-game of the series, and will now face off against the Trailblazers in a rubber match tomorrow. Despite the major loss, the Lancers did earn their first record of the season with their 497th strikeout as a staff, which was delivered by Noah Smith. CBU moves to 6-5 in the Western Athletic Conference standings and is now 32-11 on the season.
A Matt Chavez RBI single would tally the lone run for the Lancers in the second inning, which gifted the home team a short-lived lead. From there, Utah Tech bounced back from the previous night well and were relentless at the plate. The Trailblazers recorded 14 hits, and their most fruitful inning came in the eighth, when they scored four. Bryan Peck started strong, but made an early exit after the third inning with two runs tagged to him. The Saturday evening game will go down as Peck's first Division I pitching loss, moving him to 5-1 this season. The graduate delivered four strikeouts to help the Lancers achieve the new season strikeout record.
The Lancers will now turn their attention to tomorrow's game at noon as the race for the WAC regular season title continues with a winner-takes-the-series face-off.
