RIVERSIDE--- California Baptist bounced back nicely on Sunday afternoon after handling Utah Tech well with a 6-0 victory to take the weekend series. The win came on the heels of Ryne Palmer's best career appearance as he held off any hits from the Trailblazers until the sixth inning, before Zachary Yates entered and held the visiting squad to just two through nine innings. CBU moves to 7-5 in Western Athletic Conference play and is now 33-11 overall this year.
Cole Hansen's sixth home run of the season brought home three runs for the Lancers in the first inning, and CBU never looked back, carrying that same lead until the end of the game. A Connor Ross home run dribbled in two more runs in the bottom of the third before Cole Howarth scored the final run, thanks to a sacrifice fly from Eric Ruiz.
Even with six runs, the story of the game was the Lancer pitcher staff that put on the performance of the season. Palmer and Yates combined for a two-hitter shutout victory, complete with Yates' fourth save of the season. The 6-0 win is the Lancers' fourth shutout victory of the season and the first in WAC play. Additionally, the five strikeouts from the CBU pair today pushes CBU to 502 team strikeouts this season.
California Baptist will now stay local for the final midweek adventure versus UC Riverside on Tuesday before traveling to Utah Valley as WAC play continues.
