Lancers Earn First WAC Series of the Year
4/3/2026 12:55:00 PM | Baseball
ABILENE, TX--- The California Baptist baseball program will come away with at least a series win after besting Abilene Christian in a 3-2 thriller on Friday afternoon. The Lancers' newest additions to the squad this season came up big after Bryce McFeely hit a solo shot for a ninth-inning lead and Zachary Yates slammed the door shut on the Wildcats. CBU improves to 26-5 this season and is now 2-0 in Western Athletic Conference play.
McFeely would get the party started in the first inning with a fielder's choice RBI before ACU would tack on two runs in the third inning to earn the lead. An RBI single from Cole Howarth scored a Lancer in the fifth to tie the game, which would remain knotted until the top of the ninth. Excellent pitching on both sides gave way to an impressive afternoon of baseball, as both offenses were limited to just six hits apiece. It was McFeely who would end the attacking draught with a solo home run for his ninth of the season, earning the win for the Lancers.
CBU's pitching was also solid today, dishing out eight strikeouts courtesy of Luis Becerra and Yates. The latter would earn his first win of the season after tossing four strikeouts across two innings of work to seal the victory for California Baptist.
CBU will now go for a conference series sweep tomorrow as they take on Abilene Christian at 9:35 a.m. Pacific Standard Time for the weekend finale.
