CBU Earns Midweek Win Over Dirtbags

LONG BEACH, CA--- The California Baptist baseball program got back on track on Monday evening after taking down soon-to-be Big West foes, Long Beach State. After scoring most of their runs in the second inning, CBU would best the Dirtbags 10-5 during the midweek affair and improve to 27-6 on the season.
Long Beach State drew first blood with four runs in the bottom of the first, mostly due to Lancer errors. CBU settled in and answered back with a massive second inning. Cole Howarth knocked a sacrifice fly to bring in a run before the Dirtbags walked in a Lancer as the bases were loaded. An RBI single from Chris Ramirez brought home the third run of the inning before a wild pitch tied the game. Riley Hunsaker then hit a two-RBI single before Bryce McFeely sent his 10th home run of the season out of Blair Park.
From there, the scoring on both sides dried up, and there would be five scoreless innings with solid pitching before LBSU ended the drought with an RBI single. Matthew Bline answered back with a ninth-inning double that scored both Ben Castelli and Connor Ross, improving the Lancer lead to 10-5.
Ryne Palmer earned the pitching win during the bullpen game, tossing 3.2 innings and giving up just three hits while dishing out six strikeouts. The CBU pitching staff totaled 13 strikeouts on the evening. At the plate, Hunsaker knocked three hits and had two RBI on the evening to lead the team offensively.
California Baptist will now turn its attention to a Western Athletic Conference weekend, hosting UT Arlington beginning Friday.
