Mike Mobbs has spent 12 years in collegiate coaching including 4 seasons in the Cape Cod League, 4 years at Felician University, 4 years at NYU, and also 4 years coaching at Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey.
Mobbs returned to the Wareham Gatemen for a fourth season as Hitting Coach/3B Coach in 2025, having coached in Wareham in 2018 and 2023-24. The 2018 championship team was crowned the #1 Collegiate Summer Team in the country and would lead the league in runs scored. In the 2019 MLB Draft, 34 Wareham players were selected, including 1st round picks Andrew Vaughn and Bryson Stott. In the 2024 Cape Cod season, Wareham’s offense led the league in OPS, slugging, doubles and triples. In the 2025 summer season, Wareham's offense once again led the Cape League in OPS, slugging, doubles and triples, and the team also led the Cape league in runs scored & home runs.
In the 2025 MLB Draft, five hitters coached by Mobbs would be selected in the first 102 picks (Brendan Summerhill, Murf Gray, Nick Becker from Don Bosco Prep, Max Williams and Antonio Jimenez). In total, nine former players would be drafted and signed in the ‘25 draft, and Mobbs has coached over 70 players total who have gone on to sign professional contracts, with 15 reaching the MLB.
Mobbs spent 2022-2025 coaching at his alma mater Don Bosco Prep where they have won the NJ State Championship and ranked top 50 nationally in 2022, 2023 & 2025. The 2022 state title team was led by current MLB pitcher Caden Dana of the LA Angels. In the spring of 2025, Don Bosco hit .352 as a team, finished ranked No. 17 nationally, and had 9 players committed to Division I programs.
Prior to his return to Wareham, Mobbs spent 2017-2021 as hitting coach at NYU and 2014-2017 at Division II Felician University. In Mobbs first year at NYU, they would set a school record in wins and hit .300, leading UAA teams in Batting average, OBP, triples, runs & walks. Two hitters were named All-ECAC First Team including the UAA Player of the Year. In 2019, NYU would set a program record for conference victories while leading UAA teams in runs, triples and walks. Five players were selected All-UAA and three received ACBA All-Region awards.
As Hitting Coach & 3B Coach at Felician University, the Falcons would lead the East Region (37 teams) in batting average and runs per game in consecutive years, 2016 and 2017. Felician set a school record for wins in 2016, securing the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference regular season and tournament Championship; in 2017 they would go on to break that win record while also becoming nationally ranked for the first time in school history. Felician would reach as high as #16 nationally while securing another East Regional bid with a 20-2 Conference record and 35-15 overall. Three Felician hitters from 2017 would sign professional contracts.
In 2016 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play (wood bat), Felician led in every major offensive statistical category including batting average (.336), OBP, Slugging %, hits, doubles, triples, & runs. Six hitters were awarded 1st Team All-CACC, with 5 hitters selected to the 1st team All-East Region team and one hitter became the 1st All-American selection in school history. In 2017 CACC play, for the 2nd straight year Felician led in Batting average (.348), OBP, slugging %, hits, doubles, triples, and runs, while also leading Division II nationally in triples. That group became the only team in college baseball with the entire starting nine selected to 1st or 2nd Team All- Conference; 2 of which were selected to the 1st Team All-East Region; 11 total selections was a school record. They also had a school record 8 members of the baseball team selected to the CACC All-Academic Team.
In 2015, Mobbs would serve as head coach of the West Palm Beach Sharks in the South Florida Collegiate League. That team would finish the regular season on an 8-game winning streak and secured a playoff berth, while finishing top 2 in the league in batting average, OBP & Slugging %.
Mobbs played collegiately at Fordham University, where he would finish top 20 in school history in games played. As a senior in 2010, Mobbs led Fordham in runs scored and fielding percentage while being named team captain. After graduating, he would go on to play three years in the Frontier League, United League & American Association, collecting 135 hits in 135 professional games. During those 3 seasons he was managed by 4 former MLB players, including current Atlanta Braves Director of Player Development Kevin Hooper, and two former MLB Managers, Hal Lanier & Doc Edwards. In 2011, Mobbs finished as a finalist for the Frontier League Rookie of the Year, hitting .288 with 17 doubles and seven home runs.
