MIRA LOMA, Calif. --- There's bad days, there's good days, and then there's the kind of day that Geanie Jenkins had Thursday.
The Lancer first baseman, who garnered 2006 NAIA All-American honorable mention recognition, got her day started by bashing a 3-run homer in the NAIA's No. 1-ranked California Baptist's, 14-6, win over Cal State San Marcos. She went deep a couple of times as the Lancers halted the Raiders of Southern Oregon by a score of 11-2 in CBU's second victory of the afternoon.
Jenkins' monster day helped the Lancers improve to 9-1 on the season, as CBU started its home schedule with a pair of wins in the Ringor So-Cal Smash. In other action throughout the day, Dixie State beat Southern Oregon and Cal State San Marcos by scores of 12-4 and 3-0, respectively.
Candice Thomas (4-1), twice named GSAC/NAIA Region II Pitcher of the Year, tossed 3 hittless innings to pick up the win in CBU's early game over the Cougars. She issued one walk and fanned 3 batters on the afternoon, as the Lancers pounded out 14 runs on 11 hits.
Chantal Millard singled to start what would become an 8-run first inning, as Nikki Lowe followed her up with a 2-run shot to put the Cougars in an early hole. The Lancers loaded the bases following the long-ball, and Sarah Hurlbut singled in a run following a bases-loaded beanball to Karina Slauenwhite, making the score 4-0 just 5 batters into the first frame.
A pair of Cal State San Marcos errors allowed the Lancers to plate 8 runs on only 5 hits in the inning. Jenkins' homer in the third inning brought home Sara Goforth and Lowe, who had singled and walked, respectively, and Nichole Olaiz had a pinch-hit 2-run single in the fourth to make the score 11-0.
Amanda Sanchez' 3-run homer in the Cougars' half of the fourth put Cal State San Marcos up on the scoreboard, and the Cougars took advantage of a CBU error in a 3-run fifth inning to make the final score 14-6, as Cassandrah Carreon had ripped a solo shot in the CBU half of the inning.
Jenkins homered to lead off the second inning of the win over Southern Oregon, but it wasn't until Karla Alvarez knocked in a pair with a double that CBU woke up with a 10-run exposion of a third inning.
Jenkins' third home run of the day, and second of the game, was just behind a 2-run double from Millard, as the Lancers pounded out 9 hits in the frame. Millard would later single in a run to end the inning with 3 RBI as CBU poured it on in support of Amy Thomas (5-0), who picked up the win. Thomas went 5 innings, allowing 2 unearned runs on just one hit and 2 walks, while striking out 5 Raiders.
Lowe ended the afternoon with 3 hits, 3 runs and 4 RBI, as Goforth had a 4-for-5 game with 3 runs, 3 hits and 3 RBI on the afternoon.
Melissa Lerno (1-5) took the loss for Cal State San Marcos, while Melissa Wilt was tagged with the loss for Southern Oregon to drop to 0-4 on the year.
