RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? Chantal Millard went 4-for-6 with two RBIs to help California Baptist win its 12th straight and push CBU head coach Mike Smith closer to his 400th career victory.
Smith picked up his 397th and 398th victory as the Lancers' (13-1) scored a 6-2 win over Holy Names and a 5-0 win over Cal State San Marcos in the opening day of the Ringor So Cal Smash hosted at John C. Funk Stadium at California Baptist.
Melanie Ahumada (6-0) went the first six innings allowing just one run on one hit and struck out a season-high 10 batters.
Erin Moore and Nikki Lowe were 2-for-3 at the plate as Moore had a double and three RBIs while Lowe had a triple and one RBI. Sara Goforth went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Nicole Shoemaker was also 2-for-3.
CBU pounded out 11 hits while holding the Hawks to just two. Jami Escalante allowed the only other hit and run in an inning of work.
The Lancers opened the bottom of the first with a single run when Lowe scored on Moore's double after reaching base with a triple. CBU blew the game open with a five-run second and cruised from there.
In the second game, Millard was a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. The senior ripped a single in both the first and fifth inning and drilled a two-run triple in the third that scored Kelly Maconachy and Goforth to give the Lancers a 2-0 lead early in the bottom half of the inning. Millard made it 3-0 when she scored on a Lowe sac-fly to center field.
CBU added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth on a Briana Corral double to left field and a sacrifice bunt by Caty Reeves.
Amy Thomas (7-1) went the distance in the win allowing just four hits and no runs in seven innings of work.
CBU will now take on Southern Oregon at 11 a.m. and Holy Names at 1 p.m. tomorrow in the second day of the Ringor So Cal Smash.
