RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- No. 1 California Baptist University showed no ill effects after suffering its first loss of the season earlier in the week, sweeping a doubleheader with Maryville (Mo.) 9-0 and 8-0.
The saints pitching issued 16 walks in the two games and CBU hit four home runs to end each game before the full seven innings.
The Lancers broke open a 1-0 ballgame in the opener by scoring five runs in the fifth inning and then got three more in the sixth to end the game.
CBU scored four of its runs in that fifth inning on bases loaded walks. Mara Rodriguez drove in all of the Lancers' runs in the sixth ending the game with a walk-off three-run homer. It was Rodriguez's fifth homer in her last four games and her sixth of the season.
Sloan McHann also homered in the opener, giving the Lancers the 1-0 lead in the fourth inning.
Emma Holden had another brilliant outing in the circle, throwing six innings of one-hit ball, while striking out 13 of the 20 batters she faced. Holden moved to 9-1 on the season with the win.
In the nightcap, Tory Ferreira threw four shutout innings and Courtney McGee finished the game to give the Lancers the five-inning victory. Ferreira gave up three hits and struck out five to move to 8-0 on the season.
Caty Reeves and Starr White provided most of the offense for the Lancers in the late game.
After Rodriguez started the scoring with an RBI single in the first, White capped the four-run inning with a three-run shot that cleared the left-field fence.
Two innings later, with Rodriguez again on base, Reeves stepped to the plate and crushed an opposite field shot to right, putting the Lancers up 7-0.
With one out in the fourth, Andie Banuelos slapped a triple that found the gap in left center and then was driven in by Kendall Gorham to score the final run of the day.
CBU moves to 20-1 on the season, while the Saints fall to 2-6 with the two losses.
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow, facing St. Thomas in another non-conference doubleheader.
