HPU jumped out early on CBU in the opener, before the CBU pitching would settle in and the Lancer offense would make it close.
The Sea Warriors scored five runs in the third inning against CBU starter Emma Holden, chasing the Lancers' ace in the fourth inning. Tory Ferreira came in and allowed just two more runs the rest of the way.
The CBU offense finally got going late, scoring runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
With CBU trailing 7-1, Andie Banuelos and Lindsay Henry each drove in runs in the fifth and Kailey Willingham doubled off the wall to score two more in the sixth, but the Lancers couldn't complete the rally.
Breanna Patton finished off the complete game victory, giving up five runs on six hits in the game.
In the late game it looked like the same old Lancers as CBU scored at least a run in each of the first five innings and six out of seven overall.
Ferreira easily made it stand up, throwing a complete game shutout. Ferreira gave up no runs on five hits, walking just two batters all game.
Ferreira is now 7-0 on the season to lead the team in wins.
Mara Rodrigues was 2-for-5 in the game, driving in a pair of runs. Sloan McHann, Tina Galinato and Banuelos also contributed to the scoring for CBU. Banuelos was 2-for-3 in the late game after going 1-for-3 in the opener.
McHann was 3-for-4 in the opener, recording four hits on the day.
The split moves CBU to 13-2 overall, 1-1 PacWest. HPU moves to 8-4, 3-1.
It was the lone meeting this season between the Lancers and defending conference champion Sea Warriors.
