The Lancers took the opener 10-5 before falling in the nightcap 14-3 in five innings.
"We just made mental errors in that late game that we can't afford against a good team," said CBU Head Coach Bill Baber, who begins his second season at the helm. "The offense looked great in the early game, but we couldn't get it going late. We were just a couple swings away from getting things started it felt like."
The Lancers jumped ahead 2-0 in the opener, but HSU responded with a pair of runs in the third to even the game.
After falling behind 3-2 in the top of the fourth the Lancer bats came alive.
Savannah Miller scored on an error after a double by Danae Leiser and then Mara Rodriguez drove her in with a single to center. A Marshean August single to center would plate two more and give the Lancers a 6-3 lead.
CBU would score two runs in each of the next two innings, getting two-run homers from Rachel Meyer and August.
Belinda Renne held on for her first collegiate victory, giving up five runs on 10 hits.
In the late game CBU fell behind early, giving up two runs in the first and then five more in the third. It was a hole the Lancers would not recover from.
Renne came in to relieve starter Kayla Hatch, but gave up seven more runs as the Jacks cruised to the five inning win.
Ashley DeVaere hit her first home run as a Lancer in the contest and Rodriguez and April Vasques each drove in one.
Courtney Hiatt blasted two home runs en route to a 4 for 4, five RBI game for HSU.
The Lancers travel to Las Vegas for the Desert Stinger tournament this weekend.
