SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – For the first time this season, California Baptist University faced a top-25 ranked team in NCAA Division I on Friday.

UC Santa Barbara, the No. 25 team in the country, won its 11^th-straight game over the Lancers, 8-2, to start a three-game series at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. The series continues with 2 p.m. and 1 p.m. games on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, in Santa Barbara.

John Glenn got CBU on the board with a two-run homer in the top of the ninth. Ryan Mota scored on the long shot after drawing a one-out walk.

Glenn went 2-for-4 in the game, while Rory Smith batted 2-for-3 and Luke Navigato also got a base hit for the Lancers, who are now 13-5 this season. UCSB improves to 13-2 on the year.

Travis Booth went six innings on the mound for CBU, giving up three earned runs and striking out six. The Gauchos were led by their standout left-handed pitcher Ben Brecht, who entered the season as the fifth-ranked prospect in the Big West Conference for the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft.

Brecht threw seven shutout innings, giving up four hits, a walk and striking out eight. UCSB is scheduled to have leftie Jack Dashwood, who ranked fourth in the Big West for the 2019 draft, throw on Saturday against CBU's Jorge Valerio.
