LOS ANGELES – Caitlyn Lloyd had three hits, including her third home run of the season, along with three runs batted in and a run scored as California Baptist dropped a pair of games at Loyola Marymount on Tuesday afternoon.
LMU won both games by the score of 3-2. The Lancers record moves to 14-19 overall while the Lions are now 23-14.
Lloyd started the day with a lead-off home run, a lead the Lancers would hold until LMU posted three runs in the bottom of the fifth. CBU would threaten in the final inning after a two-out RBI single by Lloyd made it 3-2, but the rally was extinguished with a strikeout in the next at-bat. CBU's Kellye Springstead continued to pitch strong, giving up three runs (one earned) with five strikeouts in six innings of work.
The Lancers will resume play in the Western Athletic Conference with a three-game series against Grand Canyon on Friday and Saturday. GCU was picked second in the WAC preseason poll. The series will open with a Friday doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m. The Saturday finale will start at noon.
