Late Runs Leads Lancers Around Brown

The 25th-ranked Lancers dropped a 14-4 game to No. 17 UC San Diego to end the day, as they move to 13-12 this season. The Bears fall to 15-9 on the year, while the Tritons improve to 13-12.
It's Golden Coast Conference play from here on out for CBU. Next week will be the most challenging stretch in the league, as the Lancers travel to seventh-ranked Pacific and No. 15 Fresno State for games on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
There were seven ties and three lead changes in the day's first game with Brown. Sophomore Amy Branch tallied the fourth hat trick of her career and second of the season, while Maddie Meza, Lizette Perez and Kira O'Donell all had two goals each, as well, to lead the Lancers to victory.
The game was in the balance late in the third quarter, as Brown took a 7-6 lead on a five-meter penalty goal with 4:36 to play. Meza provided an immediate response, scoring just 19 seconds later to tie game up at 7-7. Meza wound up and beat the goalie on the far post for her second goal of the game.

An offensive foul committed by Brown put the Lancers back on the attack, and led to a Bear being ejected in transition. CBU quickly got the ball to O'Donell right in front of the cage and she buried the shot to give her team an 8-7 lead with 3:44 remaining.

CBU took the first multi-goal lead of the game when Branch completed her hat trick on a six-on-five opportunity with 2:36 to play.

It was a defensive battle the whole way. Goals from Lizette Perez and Meza in the final two minutes of the first quarter gave the Lancers a 2-1 edge going into the second, with Meza's goal coming with seven seconds on the clock.
O'Donell netted another big CBU goal with 16 seconds left and the shot clock off to give the Lancers a 4-3 lead going into halftime.

Perez scored her second and final goal in the second quarter. Branch scored her first two goals in the second quarter to force a 6-6 tie going into the fourth.

Katie Fugit, Pua Wong, Lahela Rosario and Taralyn De Leeuw all scored in the loss versus UCSD. Grace Ramirez had nine saves and a steal in the game, as well. The Lancers ended the game on a 2-0 run on the goals from Rosario and De Leeuw.
