3/8/2019 3:29:00 PM | Softball
An eight-inning gem in the circle from Springstead led the Lancers to a 3-0 win over North Dakota to open things up Friday morning. CBU put together a seventh-inning rally but fell just short in a 7-5 loss to UC Santa Barbara to end the day.
Springstead struck out 10 batters, which was almost double the amount of base runners she allowed (six) on four hits, a walk and hit by pitch. The senior got better as the game went along and retired the side in order in the fifth through seventh innings, giving up just a single in the in the eighth.
It was a pitcher's duel, with CBU being shutout through the first seven innings, as well. The international tie-breaker rule placed Alley Johnson on second to open up the eighth and CBU took advantage.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Runs in the fourth and fifth restored the Gauchos three-run lead, 5-2, but the Lancers got one back in the fifth. Alarcon, Rosario and Mackenzie Budinger started the inning with three-straight singles, and Anise Avalos came through with the RBI single to make it 5-3.
