CBU Sweeps Doubleheader in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. – A perfect mix of offense and pitching led California Baptist University to a pair of five-inning victories at the Fresno State Tournament on Saturday.

The Lancers shutout North Dakota for the second day in a row, 8-0, and then defeated Montana, 10-1. CBU has now won four of its last five games, and ends its week with two more games Sunday against UC Santa Barbara and Fresno State at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.

Amanda Argomaniz, Caitlyn Lloyd and Alley Johnson led the offense on Saturday, while Giana Lopez and Kellye Springstead logged complete game victories in the circle.

Argomaniz led CBU by going 3-for-3 at the plate for the Lancers with four runs batted in and two more scored against the Fighting Hawks. Lloyd went 3-for-4 with two triples, two RBIs and two runs and Johnson was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs versus the Grizzlies.

Lopez logged the five-inning shutout against North Dakota, as she gave up just three hits and struck out four. Cheyann Tucker also went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

A leadoff single from Mackenzie Budinger sparked a two-run inning from CBU in the second. She came home on a triple from Lloyd, and she scored on a RBI single from Argomaniz.

It was just the beginning for Argomaniz, as she doubled with one out in the fourth and then scored on Tucker's RBI single.

Brittany Galvez blasted a two-out triple to plate Tucker and make it 4-0.

With the run rule win in each, the Lancers took it when they plated three in the fifth. Halle Rosario led things off with a single and a hit by pitch put two on with one out. Anise Avalos scored the first run, and then Argomaniz belted a three-run homer to give CBU the 8-0 lead.

Lopez threw a 1-2-3 inning, with two strikeouts in the bottom of the fifth to secure the early victory.

CBU wasted no time against Montana, scoring eight runs in the top of the first on seven hits and two errors.

Lloyd and Rosario each had two hits in the inning alone, with Rosario tallying two RBI singles.

Johnson had a two-run single, while Argomaniz added an RBI double and Lloyd an RBI triple in the inning.

Johnson and Lloyd were not done and had another RBI single and triple, respectively, in the top of the fifth to cap the scoring for the Lancers, who are now 7-12 this season.
