
Avalos Shines in Las Vegas

Three Lancers had multiple hits: Anise Avalos, Molly Kolander and Makenna Stram. Avalos went 3-5 at the plate, knocking in three runs. Kolander was 2-4 with a run scored while Stram was 3-4 with two runs scored. Brittany Galves went 1-2 with two walks and a RBI.

Trailing 2-0 in the second inning, Kolander had a leadoff single down the right field line. Stram had a two-out single to keep the inning alive. Galvez loaded the bases with a full-count walk, bringing Avalos up to bat. Avalos ripped a single, plating a pair of runs to tie the game.

UNLV regained the lead with a solo home run in the third inning. The Rebels extended their lead to 6-2 with three runs scored in the fourth.

The Lancers made the game interesting in the last two innings. In the top half of the sixth, Stram hit a one-out single followed by a Galvez walk. Avalos delivered once again with a RBI single up the middle to make it 6-3. Galvez and Avalos advanced to second and third on a passed ball with two outs, but the Lancers were unable to bring them home.

In the top of the seventh inning, Cheyann Tucker reached on an infield error to start the Lancer rally. With two runners on base following a Kolander single, Stram hit a two-out single up the middle to load the bases. Galvez was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat, scoring Tucker to make it 6-4. Avalos once again came to the plate with an opportunity to drive in additional runs. Avalos battled at the plate with an 11-pitch at-bat before lining out to shortstop to end the game.

CBU moves to 21-30 overall while UNLV improves to 31-13 on the year.

The Lancers will compete in their final regular season series next weekend at Seattle U. The three-game Western Athletic Conference series will open with a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Friday with the series finale on Saturday at 2 p.m. All three games will be available to watch through the WAC Digital Network.
