RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University softball took three of its five games last week, sweeping the University of San Diego on Tuesday before traveling to Tarleton State and taking the series opener against the Texans. The Lancers' record of 16-23-1 overall and 4-5 in the Western Athletic Conference currently puts them in sixth place in the league standings, just a game and a half behind first place Seattle U.
The Lancer offense is led by the backstops Tiana Patrick and Katelyn Mangrello, who are hitting .321 and .320, respectively. Makayla Jordan is leading the team in doubles (10), runs batted in (19), on-base percentage (.389), is second in runs scored (22) and third in slugging (.412), behind Mangrello (.495) and Patrick (.476).
Pitching remains a strong point for the Lancers as Kerisa Viramontes tops the strikeout list in the WAC with 115 and ranks second in wins with 11. After allowing just three earned runs in 20.2 innings pitched last week, Viramontes dropped her season earned run average to 3.51, good enough for the fifth-best mark in the conference.

REDHAWKS AT A GLANCE
The preseason favorites to claim the conference crown have a 17-16 overall record (4-2 WAC), but the Redhawks have the second highest strength of schedule in the league behind New Mexico State. Seattle U has battled it out with five Pac-12 schools, including ranked teams from Washington, Arizona, and Arizona State, and own a victory over Oregon State in February.
Winners of its last three series against Montana, New Mexico State and Utah Valley, Seattle currently owns a conference series win-streak of six in a row dating back to the 2019 season. The Redhawks are a well-balanced team, owning the WAC's best staff ERA at 3.80 and the second-best team batting average at .292.
Seattle has five hitters topping .300 on the season, four of which are hitting over .400 in conference play. Bailey Thompson provides much of the muscle at the plate for SU, hitting .330 on the season with a team-leading 35 RBI and seven home runs. Seattle U's pitching staff is a three-headed beast with Stefanie Madrigal, Carley Nance, and Shi Smith combining for all 16 wins on the season. Smith leads the pack with six of those victories and 80 strikeouts in 77.0 innings pitched.
