Lancers Take On The Beach In Season Opener

RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University men's basketball opened up the 2022-23 season on Monday, hosting the reigning Big West regular season champions from Long Beach State. A fast-paced and entertaining game eventually went the way of The Beach, who defeated the Lancers 79-64.
CBU was led all game by a familiar face and a new one in Taran Armstrong and Riley Battin. Armstrong netted an efficient 19 points on 6-11 shooting (54.5%) to go with seven rebounds and four assists. Battin recorded a double-double in his Lancer debut, pouring in 16 points, going a perfect 6-6 from the line, and pulling in 13 boards.
The Beach built up a seven point edge by halftime and expanded that to 15 by the end of the game. The stat sheet shows a distinct advantage for LBSU in the paint, outscoring California Baptist 46-22 in the key. The Lancers held advantages in offensive rebounds (13-11) and fast break points (21-20).
The Lancers will remain at home for a battle against NJIT on Friday at 7 p.m. in the CBU Events Center.
