Chad Castillo highlighted the day with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate that included three runs batted in, three more scored, two stolen bases and his second home run in as many games. The Lancers begin the season 3-0 while the Eagles are now 0-3.
On the season, Castillo is now hitting .615 (8-for-13) and slugging 1.154 with two homers, a double, five RBI, seven runs scored and a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts. He's had at least two hits in all three games this year.

CBU 🧹 the series with a 9-4 victory. Chad Castillo goes 4-for-4, while Ulises Caballero, Jake Skipworth and Connor Clift all had multi-hit games, as well.#LanceUp⚔️ pic.twitter.com/IHgUCoMtvX
The season-opening, three-game series set a weekend attendance record for CBU with 2,467 fans. Lancer Nation came out in full force on Friday night, setting a single-game Totman Stadium record with 1,305 spectators. There were 16 NCAA Division I college baseball games played in the State of California on Friday. The Lancers ranked third in attendance among those games finishing ahead of programs such as Fresno State, San Jose State, Stanford and UCLA.
CBU also got two-hit games from Ulises Caballero (two RBI), Jake Skipworth and Connor Clift. Russell Stevenson also hit his first homer of the year to dead center.
True freshman Anthony Silvas made quite the debut in his first collegiate appearance and start. He threw five shutout innings, struck out six and allowed just two hits and a walk.

Castillo's second bomb of the season opened the scoring, as he drilled an absolute no-doubter to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Lancers built on the momentum with a three-run fifth. They did all of the damage on two outs. The rally started on a Harrison Spohn double and Castillo scored him with a single up the middle. Stevenson then hit his bomb to make it 4-0.

Coppin State made it interesting when it scored three runs in the sixth, with the help of two CBU errors to make it 4-3. The Lancers got a run back on another RBI single from Castillo with two outs.
The Eagles cut the lead back down to one, 5-4, with a run in the top of the seventh but it could have been much worse. Relief pitcher Jared Villalobos made his CBU debut with no outs and the bases loaded. He got a popup to shallow center, a sacrifice fly to right and then foul out to first base to hold CSU to just the one run and keep the Lancers ahead.
CBU two insurance runs for a 7-4 lead in the seventh. Clift drove in the first run with an RBI single after Caballero drew a leadoff walk. Michael Carpentier then doubled with two outs before being lifted for pinch runner Trevor Cadd, who came around to score on a throwing error.
Caballero brought in two more runs with a single in the eighth after a full-count, 12-pitch walk to Spohn and bunt single from Castillo. Liam Rocha struck out the side – albeit not in order – in the ninth inning to end the game and complete the sweep.
