PUERTO VALLARTA, MEXICO – California Baptist took to Nancy Almaraz Field for day two of the Puerto Vallarta Challenge, facing off against North Dakota State for just the second time ever. The Bison scored early and late on Friday morning, taking the game by a score of 4-0.
The Lancers put up five hits and left six on base; they simply weren't able to put them together, as those hits all came in five different innings. Five of the six left on were in scoring position.
Priscilla Estrada kept her season-opening hit streak alive, going 1-3 on the day and adding a stolen base. Karmyna Becerra collected her second hit of the season, and redshirt freshman Valerie Alvarez got her first start behind the plate for CBU, recording a hit and catching a Bison stealing. Molly Kolander and Sydney Soto each contributed a base knock as pinch hitters.
Starting pitcher Morgan McConnell got off to a rough start, allowing two runs in the first, but settled down after that, facing the minimum for the next three innings. The Bison bats woke back up in the fifth to secure a pair of insurance runs on a two-out home run to reach the final score.
CBU will wrap up their time at the PVC tournament with one more early morning game on Saturday. The Lancers face Maryland at 8:00 a.m. Pacific and can be viewed live on FloSoftball (fees apply).
