Lancers Crush Four Home Runs in WAC Win
3/25/2023 8:41:00 PM | Baseball
RIVERSIDE--- Lancers closed out the second contest of the WAC weekend series against Seattle University with a 10-8 win, improving their conference record to 5-3. California Baptist was able to withstand a solid rally in the seventh inning from the Redhawks and closed out the victory with four home runs.
Seattle opened the game with a pair of runs in the first inning, matched by the Lancers with two of their own. Michael Carpentier crushed a ball that hit off the wall of the right field side, earning a ground-ruled double that scored Mitchel Simon, and a Jake Skipworth single would send Carpentier home to tie the game at two.
A single home run was sent into orbit by Simon in the bottom of the third, marking his seventh of the season, and earned the lead for the Lancers. After a scoreless fourth, California Baptist put up three runs in back-to-back innings to extend their lead by seven. A Garret Ostrander double RBI, and Dustin Garcia two-run home run put the Lancers on the board with three in the fifth. Simon delivered a double to send a runner home, and Skipworth launched a two-run home run 422 feet over the wall, improving CBU's lead to 9-2 in the sixth.

Brandon Ross performed well on the mound tonight and helped the CBU defense get out of a few significant scoring opportunities for SU, tallying four strikeouts and his first win of the season. The Redhawks rallied in the seventh with six to put the score within one of the Lancer's lead, but Garcia's second homer of the night would help keep the Lancers ahead of Seattle.
