Lancers Battle Aztecs In Midweek Tilt

RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University softball hosted San Diego State University at Funk Stadium on Tuesday night, falling to the Aztecs 8-4. CBU moves to 19-14 on the year as they prepare for another Western Athletic Conference road trip this weekend.
The Aztecs came ready, plating four runs in the opening frame on a bases-loaded walk and a bases-clearing double. The Lancers would answer quickly, though, as Priscilla Estrada and Sydney Soto both reached safely and moved to second and third on Deja Westbrook's sacrifice bunt. Alissa Montes De Oca brought them all home on an 0-2 count that she sent way over the left field wall for her first collegiate home run. 🚀 ✨ Just your average 5️⃣-4️⃣-5️⃣ double play!#LanceUp⚔️ | #SCTopTen pic.twitter.com/T3P0WbHIZm

The Aztecs would tack on two more in the second and fourth innings to make it an 8-3 lead, but CBU was not without its own defensive highlights during that stretch. Not the least of which was a rare 5-4-5 double play as Kayla Lyon made two outstanding defensive plays in one at-bat that led to two SDSU outs.
The Lancers would get one run back in the bottom of the fifth inning and put two on with no outs in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't bring in any more runs in the loss to the reigning Mountain West Conference champions.
Alyssa Argomaniz made the shortest appearance of her season in the loss, lasting just 0.2 innings while allowing four earned on just two hits. Presley Hosick came in to relive Argomaniz, lasting 3.1 innings and allowing two earned on five hits. Carly Limosnero found more success in the circle on Tuesday, going three full innings without allowing a run on three hits and three strikeouts. 🗣️SOUND ON🗣️

The Lancers will pack up and head east to play a three-game series against Tarleton State this weekend. CBU will be heading to Stephenville for a WAC series against the Texans, who are currently one of four teams, along with the Lancers, who find themselves at 3-3 in conference play.
