RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University softball wrapped up their second Western Athletic Conference series of the week on Saturday, leading early but falling late to Utah Valley 4-1. The Lancers' record is now 25-18 on the year and 9-6 in conference, where they are tied for second place overall with Stephen F. Austin and GCU after Utah Tech defeated the Lopes on Saturday. The Trailblazers hold a one-game advantage in the standing over the trio.

Jazmine Castaneda threw her second complete game of the week but was on the unfortunate end of three Lancer errors. She was saddled with her third loss of the season after seven strong innings, allowing nine hits and two earned runs while striking out three. Even with Saturday's bad luck, Castaneda finishes the week with a 0.98 ERA in four appearances, striking out 12 batters and holding opposing teams to an average of just .205 in 21.1 innings of work.

Kayla Lyon brought in the lone CBU run in the bottom of the first inning, her eighth RBI of the week. She now has 17 on the year. Sydney Soto scored the run, her 25th of the season, just three behind team-leader Priscilla Estrada.

The Lancers are back on the road next week, traveling to St. George, Utah, to take on the team atop the conference standings, Utah Tech. CBU and the Trailblazers are familiar opponents, spending years battling it out in the PacWest in the Division II days. The record leans Lancers in the Division I era, with CBU leading the series 4-2 since 2021, outscoring UT 28-14 in those six games.
