CBU Opens WAC Series Against Utah Tech

ST. GEORGE, UTAH – California Baptist University softball dropped Friday's doubleheader against the conference-leading Utah Tech Trailblazers by scores of 13-2 and 10-2. The Lancers fall to 25-20 on the year with a 9-8 Western Athletic Conference tally. The Trailblazers extend their lead in the WAC, now owning a 27-15 record in 2023 and a 12-5 mark in league play.
GAME ONE: UT 13 – CBU 2 (5)
The Trailblazers were ready from the start. The home team got things early with a five-run bottom of the first, followed by an eight-run second inning, building their lead and never looking back. The Lancers posted a pair of runs in the top of the third courtesy of RBI singles from Alissa Montes De Oca and Kayla Lyon. CBU would go through three pitchers in game one, with freshman Carly Limosnero having the most success, tossing three innings of relief work while allowing just one run on three hits and a strikeout.
GAME TWO: UT 10 – CBU 2 (5)
The second game mirrored the first in that the Trailblazers wasted no time building a significant lead. UT would post six runs in the first, two more in the second, another in the fourth, and a walk-off winner in the bottom of the fifth. CBU's two runs came in milestone fashion from Valerie Alvarez and Ashlee Annett, each launched their first home runs as Lancers in the top of the fourth and fifth innings, respectively.
Limosnero came in again in relief, this time going 2.2 innings, allowing only two hits and one earned run.
The Lancers and Trailblazers will complete their series on Saturday morning, with the first pitch set for 11:00 a.m.
