RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist baseball program rounded out its series with the University of Connecticut on Sunday afternoon after the Lancers fell to the Huskies 6-2 for the series loss. CBU moves to 13-7 on the year, while UConn improves to 7-10.
The rubber match started well on Sunday for both squads, as California Baptist got on the board first in the bottom of the second with Julian Alvarez's first home run of the year. The Huskies tied the game in the top of the fourth with a pair of singles and took their first lead of the game in the top of the sixth with a solo homer.
CBU responded immediately in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single from Gunner Antillon that scored Alvarez to tie the game yet again. The Huskies ultimately ran away with the game in the top of the eighth after plating four runs for a 6-2 final line. A walked-in run, two-RBI single, and a steal home secured the win in favor of UConn.
Antillon had the best day at the plate for the Lancers after he made his way back into the starting line-up for CBU and snagged three hits during his three at-bats. On the pitching side, the Lancers' staff combined for five strikeouts and allowed 13 hits.
California Baptist will welcome Dartmouth on Tuesday evening for a midweek tilt and then will head to Stephenville, Texas, for their first away conference series on Friday.
