CBU Falls to UT Arlington During Weekend Opener

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist baseball program welcomed UT Arlington on Thursday evening for a Western Athletic Conference series but dropped the series opener 14-2 in seven innings. CBU moves to 5-2 in conference play and now holds a 16-10 overall record, while UTA improves to a 7-3 WAC record and is now 11-15 on the season.

UT Arlington wasted no time and tallied three runs in the first inning for an immediate lead that was never relinquished, courtesy of a double, a fielder's choice, and a single. The Lancers answered with a single run in the same inning after Josh Paino tallied an RBI double that brought home Nicholas Dumesnil but CBU was held to no runs until the sixth inning after Ryan Kim knocked a solo homer for the third run of the game on behalf of California Baptist. The Mavericks piled on the runs throughout the game with their largest push coming in the top of the fourth inning in which the squad scored seven runs. Another three-run inning in the sixth would ultimately secure the 14-2 final line and activate the run-rule. CBU has not been run-ruled since April 23, 2023, after falling to UNLV 13-3 in the final contest of the three-game series.

The Lancers will return to Totman Stadium on Friday for a doubleheader and the opportunity to take back the series, which would keep CBU at the top of the Western Athletic Conference standings. The first contest of the day is scheduled for 2 p.m., while game two will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
