ABILENE--- The California Baptist University baseball team closed out its series with the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Sunday afternoon, with the Wildcats avoiding the sweep with a 4-0 victory at Crutcher Scott Field.
The win for ACU moves them to 11-7 in the Western Athletic Conference standings. Meanwhile, the loss for CBU drops them to 13-5 in the WAC and 26-14 overall.
The Wildcats did most of their damage in the first inning, scoring three runs on four hits in the frame. ACU would only manage one run on four hits for the rest of the game. The Wildcats' lone run for the rest of the game would come off a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh.
The Lancers first hit of the ball game would come courtesy of a Connor McGuire in the top of the sixth with a perfectly placed ball to right center field. Ryan Kim and Jake Brown would also place singles on the stat sheet in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, but that would be the only hits on the board for CBU in the afternoon.
On the mound, Head Coach Gary Adcock cycled through a number of pitchers, who would combine for five strikeouts and eight total hits allowed. Jacob Wilson got the start on the mound and would ultimately be charged with the loss.
CBU will be back in action on Tuesday, April 23, for a midweek tilt against Long Beach State at 6 PM at Totman Stadium.
