RIVERSIDE--- A comeback highlighted by a grand slam from Mitchel Simon was on the menu for the California Baptist baseball program on Tuesday evening. The Lancers took down the Long Beach State Dirtbags 12-8 in a three-hour nine-inning affair that improved CBU to 27-14 on the season while LBSU dropped to 20-17-1.
The 20-run game saw a cumulative 26 hits between both sides, with the Dirtbags putting up 14 but leaving ten runners on base thanks to solid defensive work from the Lancers. California Baptist showed well at the plate during the midweek tilt and tallied 12 hits, while Simon raked in a team-high six RBI on the evening. The Lancers also got busy with the extra bases and knocked a pair of home runs while also dishing out three doubles.
California Baptist struck first with a pair of back-to-back two-run innings for an early lead that was quickly snuffed by six runs in the top of the third by the away team. A two-run homer, triple-RBI double, and RBI single pushed the Dirtbags past the Lancers for LBSU's only lead of the evening. The bottom of the fourth saw Ryan Kim, Garret Ostrander, and Gunner Antillon load the bases for CBU, and all rounded the bases after a rocket was launched off the bat for a grand slam from Simon that restored the lead in favor of the home team.HIT THAT ONE TO THE BEACH🏝️

Antillon extended California Baptist's lead by two runs in the bottom of the fifth after he singled to left field and claimed another RBI in the bottom of the seventh after grounding out to bring home Matthew Darr. Josh Paino wrapped things up in the eighth with a solo home run over right field to push the Lancer's lead to 12-8. Starting pitcher Ryne Palmer was impressive through his two innings of work as he allowed no hits and sat down five Dirtbags through six at-bats.
